Description

The Production and Operations Management (POM) Foundation course is designed for students entering the MBA program who have not had sufficient exposure to the subject before.

At the end of the course you will have learned all the basic concepts typically taught in a first course in POM. You will have also gained a working knowledge of several POM techniques that are used in manufacturing and service industries. These techniques will cover such topics as production and inventory control, scheduling, project management, and quality control. You will be able to implement these techniques on spreadsheets using specially designed templates.

Prerequisites

College algebra, basic statistics, basic competency in using Microsoft Excel. Not for MBA credit.

Course Outcomes

Construct mathematical models of manufacturing and service operations
Solve operations problems in the areas of forecasting, facilities layout, aggregate production planning, inventory control, scheduling, project management, and quality control
Create spreadsheet implementations of above solutions
Review recent developments in Operations Management
Appraise how other functional areas of business are integrated with Operations Management
