D2L Tips

Avoid Text Loss

No matter what program you are using, what medium you are in, or what computer you are on, problems can arise. You may encounter a power outage; your browser could crash, you might time out in D2L, etc.

As a result, the safest approach is the "save often" approach. If you are creating an entry of any length for D2L, it is best to create your document in WORD and then copy and paste the information into your course. In this way, you can also save your draft WORD copy as a backup on your own computer.

Corporate and Personal Firewalls

Many corporations and individuals have installed firewalls to control information to and from unapproved sites and to protect computers from hackers and viruses.

If you receive a firewall-related error message, or have problems accessing restricted resources, you may need to contact your corporate IT group for assistance if you are on a work computer.

If you are using your personal computer and have installed and/or activated firewall or security software, you will need to make sure that course sites are not blocked, and that ports 80 (standard Web port) and 443 (secure sockets port) are open to your web browser. Your firewall security software documentation should help you with this.

Viruses

If you don't already have an anti-virus software program on your computer, purchase one as soon as possible. If you already have an anti-virus program, make sure you update the virus definitions frequently.

Desire2Learn (D2L) FAQ

Help! I can't find my course!

You will not be able to find your course until approximately one week before the start date.

After you log into D2L, scroll to the bottom of the page to find "My Course." You should see University of Wisconsin MBA Consortium. Click the arrows to the right of the title. This action should expand the level revealing the courses you're taking.

If you still do not see the link to your course, please contact the MBA office at 888.832.7090 to verify your enrollment in the course.

There are a few possible causes of pop-up windows being blocked in D2L.

The Pop-up Blocker may be turned on in Internet Explorer. If this is the case, you need to add the D2L site to the list of allowed sites. Visit the Microsoft website to learn how to add our D2L site to the list of allowed sites.
The Yahoo! or Google Toolbar may be installed on your browser. If this is the case, you need to uninstall the toolbar in order for the pop-ups to work in D2L. Visit the Yahoo! webs site or the Google web site to learn how to uninstall the toolbar.
