Featured Student - Nick De Guzman

Nick De GuzmanNick De Guzman, who has been with the program since Fall 2021, is one of our graduate assistants for the 2021-22 academic year. He works with faculty members at UW-Eau Claire to help support projects and research efforts. You can learn more about Nick in the following interview.

What is your name and where do you live?
My name is Nick De Guzman and I live in San Diego, CA.

When did you begin with the UW MBA Consortium?
I just completed my first term with the UW MBA Consortium.

What is your educational background?
I received my Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of California, Irvine, and later received my Juris Doctor from Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles, CA.

Where do you currently work and what is your position?
I currently work at Axos Bank as a Corporate Counsel.

What are your current goals for earning an MBA?
In law school, I learned that public service work and helping others were passions of mine. I am hoping that by earning my MBA, new career opportunities will open up to me-opportunities from which I can better serve others.

What are your academic and/or professional interests?
I have always been very interested in business but have had no formal education or training in the field. I am very much looking forward to developing my business acumen through this program. I am hoping this education, along with my legal background, will not only help advance my career but will also allow me to pursue my passions.

In your GA position, what instructor are you working directly with?
I am working with Dr. David Hwang.

What project/research are you supporting in your GA position?
I am working on a research project and am analyzing and gathering data for a survey on securities class action filings in the United States.

What are you enjoying about the GA position?
I appreciate that I was placed in a GA position that utilizes my legal knowledge, and I enjoy that I am being exposed to new areas of the law.
